In September 2007, the Gambling Act 2005 came into force in the UK. All gambling operators based in Britain must adhere to the law. So what does it say?
Operators must prevent underage gambling, provide information on responsible gambling, look out for signs of problem gambling and have procedures in place where you can ask to be banned from a length of time to prevent you racking up more debts. Operators aren’t allowed to provide credit, offer unfair terms or make dodgy claims in their adverts, and they must have a proper complaints procedure that their customers can use when they’re unhappy.
None of this applies to firms operating outside the UK, so be careful out there.
